Arzu Saglam & Valentin Cernat

Observing the vastness, the horizons, a volcano. deserted flat-lands and unfolding landscapes become parallel. a place where little leaves or arrives and time trickles thick like treacle. and "Birke paints a bird, out of the bird the arm, out of the arm the mouth. She paints and paints". while listening to the words fading into the space, into its rear corners, between its shapes, small sounds erupt and light beams run down the walls.

aRzu saglam & Valentin Cernat are presenting two ephemeral interventions.
Sounds and Lights in the Space Resonance are presented on tuseday the 2nd of Aprilvat 19:44 and be shown each day at the same hour.
The installation finishes off with a performance on Friday the 5th of April.

ARZU SAGLAM (B. ZURICH, 1985)
IS AN ARTIST WORKING IN THE MEDIUMS OF SOUND ART AND MOVING IMAGE. SHE CREATES AUDIO VISUAL PROJECTS, WORKS IN RECORDING, COMPOSITION AND SOUND DESIGN. IN 2007, WHILE STUDYING ANTHROPOLOGY, FILM STUDIES AND ART HISTORY IN THE UNIVERSITY OF ZURICH, SHE DECIDED TO SHIFT TOWARDS A CREATIVE PATH, IDENTIFYING MORE AND MORE AS A PRACTICING ARTIST. FOR MANY YEARS SHE HAS WORKED AS AN AMATEUR ACTOR WITH A NUMBER OF THEATRE GROUPS, INCLUDING A PRODUCTION AT JUNGES THEATER BASEL AND PARTICIPATED IN INDEPENDENT PRODUCTIONS AT THEATERHAUS GESSNERALLEE, ZURICH. 2013 SHE GRADUATED IN ANIMATION 2&3D FROM HSLU, LUCERNE UNIVERSITY OF APPLIED SCIENCES AND ARTS AND SPENT ONE YEAR OF HER STUDIES AT MOME, MOHOLY-NAGY UNIVERSITY OF ART AND DESIGN, BUDAPEST. SINCE 2014 SHE HAS BEEN WORKING AS A FREELANCER FOR SEVERAL FILM MAKERS. FOR THE COLLABORATION WITH EVA STOTZ „ONE MILLION STEPS“ SHE WAS HONORED WITH A „BEST ANIMATION-& EXPERIMENTAL FILM“ PRIZE AT BAMBERGER KURZFILMTAGE. SHE WORKED IN PERFORMANCE PRODUCTIONS, TECHNICAL SUPPORT AND AS A CREATIVE ADVISOR AT TANZFABRIK BERLIN AND THE UFERSTUDIOS BERLIN AND WITH SEVERAL CHOREOGRAPHERS IN THE FIELD OF CONTEMPORARY DANCE. SHE RECENTLY FINISHED EPAS (EUROPEAN POSTGRADUATE IN ART OF SOUND) AT KASK CONSERVATORIUM AND IS CURRENTLY LIVING IN BRUSSELS.

Valentin Cernat (b. Bucharest, 1988)
is an artist living and working in Antwerp and Bucharest. He lately obtained a master degree from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp, In Situ3 . Previously he had two bachelor degrees, one in Photography and Moving Image from the National University of Fine Arts Bucharest and one in Environmental Economics from Bucharest Academy of Economic Studies. His artistic interest emerged on different layers such as performance and installations, sculpture or interventions in the public space. Cernat is exploring in his works the notions of the interrelation of spatial and social domains, center and periphery mutual forming, public space and identity. Withal, he works with sound art and field recordings, which became an integral part of his practice. Valentin Cernat is part of Samenschool, an artist-run space, and having the radio show ‘Index’ at Radio Centraal, in Antwerp.
